Greetings Hew-Mons!
I’m currently working my way through the fifth season of Deep Space 9 with extreme enthusiasm, and although Quark is one of my least favourite characters on the show, I felt the need to draw him. Perhaps through portraiture, I thought, I can learn to love his Ferengi ways. Ferengis still make my skin crawl, but they are a lot of fun to paint.
This piece measures 9” by 12” and was done on 140lb CP watercolour paper. It is mixed-media: wax crayon (I used this as a colourful resist on Quark’s jacket) pencil crayon, graphite, watercolours, and a little bit of acrylic. As always, the scan doesn’t quite capture the nuances of colour or texture, but… whaddyagonnado?
The original painting can be found for sale in my Etsy storefront. has sold!
I might try some more portraits of my favourite team of Starfleet members so keep your ear to the ground, and remember the 102nd Rule of Acquisition: “Nature decays, but portraiture lasts forever” … or something like that.

“What if Oscar Tiberius, my mongrel dog, was Captain of the Starship Enterprise?” At last, we may begin to scratch the surface of this age-old question.
Illustrated here is what my research shows to have happened on the fateful day that Evil Oscar Tiberius was transported onto the Enterprise.
On a side note, I really shouldn’t have been so surprised by the number of reference images of ‘Saurian Brandy’ on the internet.

Star Trek: The Oscar Series
This is one page of a larger project: a ‘what-if’ imagining of my mongrel Oscar as Captain of the Starship Enterprise. “Ridiculous!” you say? Well you are correct.
A ‘No-Prize’ to the person who can name the episode that this comic parodies.
Thanks to Jeff for the awesome banner :)
