I used freshwater microorganisms for reference. My favourite is the Moss Piglet. There is also the waterflea, lots of algae, a watermite, and a hydra.
Planet Portraits - Sept, 2012 - Jupiter and Neptune
These are acrylics on panel, measuring 8”x8”. They are both really textured - I used acrylic mediums to build up parts of the canvas to reflect the atmospheres of the planets.

When this painting is tilted, it magically becomes more tacky. Like magic!
